Portage Lake took a 1-0 lead over Mosinee going into the first intermission of the final regular season game. The Pioneers quickly jumped on the scoreboard in the starting minutes of the second period, increasing their margin by 2-0.
Mosinee's defenseman, Travis Michalski brought them within one as team-mates Greg Hanson and Theran Bauer worked the puck around for the score. Portage Lake held a slight 2-1 advantage going into the final twenty minutes of play. Jordan Schmidt knotted the score midway through the period with Nick Zebro and Eric Vehlow assiting on the goal. Zebro later buried the puck to give Mosinee their first lead of the night with less than three minutes left in regulation.
The Pioneers pulled their goalie to give them an extra man in their offensive zone. The Makers gained control of the puck with Vehlow passing the rubber to Zebro who found the empty and sealed the win for Mosinee.
Mosinee defeated their opponents over the weekend by out-shooting them 99-62 and out-scoring them 21-5. The Bombers of West Bend were throttled, 14-2 by the Makers in Mosinee's barn. They also handed the Wolverines a 7-3 loss in Calumet, MI.
Scoring for Mosinee in Game 1 were: Nick Zebro with a Hat Trick (3 Goals), Theran Bauer, Travis Michalski, Greg Hanson, Kevin Radke, Nick Bush, Keith Kuklinski, Brian Bednarczyk, Tom Lentz, Jordan Schmidt, Colin Blair and Willie Beetham each with one. Brad Rieck and Alex Nowak shared duties between the pipes and came up with 30 saves.
Mosinee Papermakers defeated the Green Bay Deacons 7-2 and the Calumet Wolverines 5-2 over the weekend. Brad Rieck and Jake Michalski each tallied a win, recording .933 and .931 save percentages between the posts.
