The Pee Wee A team concluded their season with a second place finish in the six team Merrill Invitational Tournament this past weekend.  Mosinee began the tournament playing D.C. Everest with Gunner Colbert starting the scoring on an assist by Max Peterson.  Everest tied the score but Mosinee took control in the second period, scoring four goals.  Kassidy Oliva scored on the power play on an assist from Colbert.  T.J. Obrimski, who made his first appearance on the A team, subbing in for Grant Lindell, who was unavailable for the tournament, then scored on assists from line-mates, Jeremy Falstad and Kadin Oliva.  Max Beste put one in the net on an assists from Kassidy Oliva and Trey Fitzgerald before Colbert put two unassisted goals in the net to get a hat trick and the 6-2 victory.  Stanford Swid had 18 saves.  In game two, Mosinee played Eagle River who jumped out to a 1-0 lead.  It was all Mosinee after that as they scored five straight for the 5-1 victory.  Fitzgerald had two goals with Kassidy Oliva, Beste and Colbert each getting one.  Kassidy Oliva (2), Colbert, Fitzgerald and Beste also had assists and Swid had 14 saves.  On Sunday, Mosinee took on Merrill who jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.  Mosinee fought back, however, with Beste getting two goals and Kassidy Oliva one, on assists from Colbert (2), Fitzgerald and Josh Monyok but it was not enough as Merrill prevailed 4-3.  Swid had 30 saves.  The close loss still put Mosinee in the Championship game in a rematch against Merrill as Mosinee was two points ahead of third place Wausau.  Mosinee did not disappoint putting their hearts into the rematch in a game many fans thought was the best game witnessed all season.  Merrill began the see-saw battle with a score but Beste tied the game on a Fitzgerald assist.  Mosinee then took the lead on a Colbert score on an assist by Kadin Oliva.  Merrill came right back and tied the game before Colbert put in another one for the lead on an assist by Beste.  Merrill then put one in to tie the score at three at the end of two periods.  Mosinee came out strong at the start of the third period with Colbert scoring his third and fourth goals on assists by Kassidy Oliva (2) Beste and Peterson.  The two goal lead would not hold up, however, as Merrill came back, scoring three straight.  Mosinee was not done though.  Kassidy Oliva buried one in the net on a Beste assist to tie the score with a minute left and put the game into overtime.  A victory to end the season was not to be, however, as Mosinee appeared out of sync with the four on four OT format and Merrill scored .22 seconds into OT for the sudden death victory.   Swid stopped 18 shots in the final.  Despite the loss, the Pee Wee A team was deemed to have had a very good season with many expectations exceeded and the players all getting better as they look forward to next season.
