Learn To Skate

Learn to Ice Skate or Play Hockey

The Mosinee Hockey Club (MHC) would like to invite you to join our 2024-2025 Learn To Skate (LTS) Program. Whether your family has been involved with hockey for years or you’re new to the sport, we’re sure you may have some questions.

What is “Learn to Skate”?

Mosinee Hockey Club offers skating lessons that provide the fundamentals for figure skating, hockey and recreational skating. Additionally, MHC provides helmets, gloves, knee and elbow pads so that your child learns in a safe, secure way.  You will need to provide the skates and a stick.

Who is LTS for?

Learn To Skate is open to any child (male or female) residing in the Mosinee School District that are 3 years old and above (birth year 2021). If you reside in a community, referred to as "Open area", that doesn't offer a local hockey association (such as Edgar, Stratford, Rosholt or Marathon) you may register with Mosinee Hockey Club regardless of the school your child attends.  If you reside in an "Open area" you also must NOT have played for another association while living in that area. If you have questions about your residence, please reach out to our Registrar for assistance.

What will the kids learn?

In addition to the basic skills of skating (stopping, proper gliding, turning, how to fall without injury, backward skating, etc.) your child will learn the basics of hockey including: beginning passing and shooting drills, skating with the puck and a variety of fun filled activities.

What is the cost?

First time participating in LTS:

  • $50 for age 3-6
  • $66 for ages 7 or older

Second or third year in LTS:

  • $75 regardless of age

You are also expected to assist the MHC in its fundraising efforts by volunteering in the hockey rink concession stand (or other available volunteer opportunities) and by selling five $20 raffle tickets.

How does MHC cost compare to other skating lessons?

Other associations offer introduction skating lessons at $40 for approximately 8-one hour sessions. MHC offers approximately 10 lessons for $50 and let you borrow most of the equipment.

In Learn to Skate, you will need to purchase a very minimal amount of “gear” for your skater including:

  • Hockey skates
  • Mouth guard
  • An inexpensive hockey

We also have sticks they can borrow if you can’t afford a stick.

When are practices?

Practices are on Sundays and begin in early November and end in mid February. The schedule will be posted prior to the season starting.

Equipment handout will be before the first practice. The date and time will be communicated once the practice schedule is set. There will also be a parent meeting scheduled in November.

How do I sign up?

Registration will be online from July 22 - August 15, 2024.

Have additional questions?

Feel free to contact one of the MHC board members and they'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
