Learn To Skate

Interested in learning to ice skate or play hockey?

The Mosinee Hockey Club (MHC) would like to invite you to join our 2022-2023 Learn To Skate (LTS) Program. Whether your family has been involved with hockey for years or you’re new to the sport, we’re sure you may have some questions. Hopefully this flyer will answer them!

What is “Learn to Skate”?

Mosinee Hockey Club offers skating lessons that provide the fundamentals for figure skating, hockey and recreational skating. Additionally, MHC provides helmets, gloves, knee and elbow pads so that your child learns in a safe, secure way.

Who is it for?

Learn To Skate is open to any child (both boys and girls) residing in the Mosinee School district that are 3 years old and above (birth year 2019). Also open to Edgar, Stratford and Marathon.

What will the kids learn?

In addition to the basic skills of skating (stopping, proper gliding, turning, how to fall without injury, backward skating, etc.) your child will learn the basics of hockey including: beginning passing and shooting drills, skating with the puck and a variety of fun filled activities.

What does it cost me?

If your child is participating for the first time; the approximate 4 month season is yours for only $50 dollars for age 3-6 or $66 if they are 7 years old or older ($56 goes to USA Hockey and $10 to Mosinee Hockey) and an expectation that you assist the MHC in its fundraising efforts by volunteering in the concession stand (or other available volunteer opportunities) at the Hockey Rink and by selling $100 in Raffle tickets. It’s a very small investment when you think of the enjoyable family entertainment skating can provide. It is a family oriented, social activity that makes those long and cold winter months seem to fly by. At registration, $150 is due, but we hold the $100 check until the end of December 2022, to give you time to sell the raffle tickets.

How does that compare to other skating lessons?

Other associations offer introduction skating lessons at $40 for approximately 8-one hour sessions. We offer approximately 17 lessons for $50 and let you borrow most of the equipment. In Learn to Skate, you will need to purchase a very minimal amount of “gear” for your son or daughter. Hockey skates, a mouth guard and an inexpensive hockey stick are the only equipment you need to purchase (we also have sticks they can borrow if you can’t afford a stick).

When are practices?

Practices will begin on November 6th, 2022 from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. There will be a schedule posted at the rink and on the website (www.mosineehockey.com). Equipment handout will be communicated once the date is determined located in locker rooms 5 and 6. There will also be a parent meeting scheduled in November (date and time TBD).

How do I sign up?

Registration will be held on September 15, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at the Mosinee Rec Center. Or contact our Registrar – Meg Lech at lechfamily07@outlook.com (email is preferred) or 715-573-0653. See the Mosinee Hockey website under the LTS tab to register online.
